FC Cincinnati beat Sporting Kansas City, 3-3, 4-2 in a penalty shootout to collect two points in their Leagues Cup opener Sunday at TQL Stadium. Ian Murphy and Brandon Vazquez scored goals to bring FCC back from a 2-0 deficit, but the Orange and Blue needed another equalizer from Luciano Acosta at the penalty spot right before the final whistle in regulation to take points from a match where Sporting went down a man because of a red card in the 30th minute. They will conclude group play Thursday against Liga MX side Chivas.
